The Cartoons of today SUCK!!!!
When was a kid most of the cartoons had a moral or some kind of message. Now most of the cartoons are about things that kids shouldnt be watching. You very rarely get a good cartoon that kids are interested in that has any moral or message or in a point for that matter. Like Yu-gi-oh and Pokemon I dont understand the facination with these 2 in particular. What is the point of these 2 cartoons. Transformers had a point, Autobot protect earth from deceticons, and every episode had a moral. G.I. Joe was the same way. The mission was to defend the U.S. mainly from cobra. Again Every episode had a moral. Remember "Now you know and knowing is half the battle." Voltron, Thundercats, The smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, hell even Speed Racer had a plot and a moral. Now all you get is mindless violence. Nothing to justify or explain the actions of the characters. A perfect example is the grim adventures of billy and mandy. Nothing but gory violence and unless the point and the moral is becareful what you wish for. Really dont think there is one. And if that is the moral I really dont think that they are getting it across very well. Now Power Rangers has a moral and a plot its just a crappy show. Baby looney tunes and duck dodgers are the only 2 cartoons i can think of that have a point and a moral. Not only that most cartoons seem to be gear more toward adults that kids. Granted I love watching cartoons. But a lot of these shows they say are for kids are really pushing it with enuendos and such.

I know what you mean. Look at GI Joe, after every episode they always had that little 2 minute informational message at the end, punctuated with the classic line, "Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. GGGG IIII JOOOOE!" Similar trends were also found in HeMan, Voltron, ThunderCats, (and dare I go there) Power Rangers. And we also had Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow, and Mr. Rogers - you know, the parent mandated PBS staples in our television diet. Then as we got older television switched us to complex problem solving with MacGyver. Now the only message cartoons of today deliver is "Cheap animation and flashing vivid colors waste a 30 minute television segment." What the hell do they learn from Yu Gi Oh anyways? I lost interest in television the day they canceled Animaniacs and no longer watch TV at all. It's all fascinating but with little to no application to real life - CSI is cool, but when are my children ever going to piece together a crime scene? "Who took my toy? Let's just dust for prints... HERE'S A MICROBE!"

OMG, I am SOOO with you about Animaniacs!!! That was my all-time favorite cartoon...the only thing I can tolerate anymore is SpongeBob, which isn't even a GREAT cartoon. The Wild Thornberrys was a good one, but they don't show it anymore. Dammit.

I think you may be over romantisizing your youth just a bit, and looking only at the cartoons which support your story rather that taking in the whole picture. G.I. Joe - I loved it growing up, but lets face facts, here's a cartoon for kids that glamorize war. Smurfs - watched it then, let my kids watch re-runs now, a story of 99 men living with one chick who, lets face it, sends a message that girls can get anything they want by being pretty and flirty. If you want to go back even further, and the childhood favorite for generations - Bugs Bunny. Some of the looney toon cartoons were so violent that they've actually been edited out for today's TV. Now you complain that all cartoons of today or gross and disgusting citing one source - Billy and Mandy. There are far worse ones out there, but this isn't the only choice for kids. My g/f's kid loves Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which I can't find any problem with, and has the morals you're looking so hard to find. And Ben 10 and Teen Titans are both on par with Transformers and Superfriends from our day.
