Raffling should be unregulated
This one sounds odd, I know. I recently looked into an idea for web-based raffling for raising money for individuals/organizations. I was shocked to learn that there is an amazingly harsh stranglehold on raffles, bingo, and other ticket/prize activities because it is "gambling." I was shocked to find that people have been prosecuted for holding illegal raffles to help a child. Is that so bad? Is raffling in itself really that bad? Imagine if it were unregulated, what would that do for companies like ebay where merchandise could be raffled away? It is a huge economical boom that we're missing on. Just look at what gambling has done for Las Vegas! It could generate a whole new style of economy if law-makers would just open their mind a little bit.

In most cases where you're finding someone prosecuted for raffles held in the name of charity, you'll find someone who's profited from the process.

yeah, but that's the point of holding a raffle, isn't it? There's always going to be someone or something that's going to profit from it... it's a fund raiser. And even if it's not for a "noble" cause, it should still be a valid exchange method. If there were such a thing as a raffle hall, you better believe that place would be BUSY. So many great things for commerce could occur if the retarded, close-minded (and likely to be republican) politicians would open their eyes for just one moment and realize, "Hey, the 50s were almost 60 years ago."
