Driver licences for 16 year olds.
I don't think 16 year olds should be able to get a driver license, it should be 18.young teenagers around 16 don't think about consequences, they're just trying to be cool around their friends, driving fast, not paying attention to what they are doing. They should be riding the bus or a bycicle, that way they would probably apreciate it more when they get a car and be a little more careful. Sure, riding a bike is dangerous, but so is a car. I almost had a bad car accident today,I was on an avenue,I had the right of way, this teenage boy comes out of a street that had a stop sign for him and just keeps on going,I had to slam on my breaks. He wasn't even looking for the traffic comming. I can tell he was very young and had a bunch of friends riding with him. I have a 15 year old nephew and I pray to God that his parents don't let him drive a car, being the way he is.these kids are not responsible, they shouldn't be trusted with a car...

I agree with this, but it would never happen. I think a better alternative is to require all drivers under 17 or 18 to have a licensed adult in the car at all times until they are of a less thoughtless age. They are required to have one there when they only have a permit, so why not extend the requirement?

shoot, even adults have problems driving safe, let alone 16 year olds. I do have to say that when I was 16 I was a damn good driver... because I didn't have a car. I had to drive my mom's car. It had an engine the size of a coke can, and with less power than coke. I think as a whole we've it about as balanced as possible, at least law-wise. I think there is a huge parenting gap that should be filled. In school there were those of us that could drive well, then there were the kids that ended up with a Mustang GT wedged under a semi-trailer because they didn't think to check left before changing lanes (yeah, a kid actually changed lanes into the side of an 18-wheeler. his parents bought him another GT). Maybe the parents should be required to take a test as well as the kids.

I don't agree that kids should have to wait until they are 18. Getting your license is a right of passage. If your kid is not responsible enough to drive alone...don't let them. Don't buy them a car just because they have a license. It is up to the parents to decide when their child is responsible enough to have a vehicle and drive without an adult in the vehicle. I was more than capable of driving at sixteen and responsible enough to be trusted outside of my parents control. Every wreck that I was involved in before I was 18 was the other partys fault. I was rear-ended three times by people over twenty-five.

It's true...some things don't improve with age. But I would be willing to stake everything I own that the people who rearended you were bad drivers at 16, who should have been made to wait and learn that driving is a privilege, not a right.

I cannot agree, I am 16 and i am no where near capable of driving. I have yet to learn and am in the process of it. I do not believe it is right to characterize people by their age. I know of older drivers who are a hazard to all those around them, and of younger drivers who seem so skilled. We should not judge based on age, but on skill. I think that rather than not allow younger people to drive, the test in all should be more difficult and the penalties for improper conduct on the road should be increased.
